An overview of W3C technologies Oreste Signore (manager of W3C Office in Italy at C.N.R.) XML technology family is playing a significant role in the evolution of the Web towards Semantic Web. A coherent usage of XML technologies leads to implementation of applicationsi showing significant accessibility, portability and flexibility levels, with reduced costs and saving of investments. In addition, coherence with basic Web principles and World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) long term goals guarantees evolution of applications towards the ambitious Semantic Web objective. In this talk we will briefly recall some W3C recommendations (XML , XMLSchema, XSL/XSLT, XHTML, XML Signature, RDF, SVG, etc.) and will discuss some issues where XML can provide a more effective information management. Finally, future perspectives, especially Semantic Web, will be discussed.
